【EM菌とは】

EMとは、農地や水環境の改善に威力を発揮する光合成細菌や、発酵型の乳酸菌、酵母など、自然界にいる人にも環境にもやさしい善玉菌の集合体です。これらの善玉菌を絶妙な比率でブレンドし、相乗効果を生み出したのがEMという共生関係です。1982年に比嘉照夫琉球大学名誉教授によって開発され、現在では、農業、畜産、河川浄化、健康など様々な分野において世界100カ国以上で使われています。

【微生物多様性に貢献するEM】

土も水も、そこに住む微生物の多様性やバランスによって健康な土や綺麗な水が保たれています。例えば、連作障害などで土壌の微生物のバランスが崩れると、土地はやせて、作物が良く育たなくなりますが、微生物を活性化すれば、土壌が改良されます。そして土が良いと、植物も健康になり、病気や虫の被害に強くなります。
また、汚染された川では、悪化した環境では生きていけない生物が死に絶え、生態系が貧弱になります。逆に川の微生物の多様性が豊かになれば、自然の自己浄化能力が高まり、きれいな水が戻ってくるのです。このようにEM技術が様々な本題を解決できるのは、EM技術が在来の微生物のバランスを改善することによって改善生態系の「自己浄化」の働きを強めるからなのです。

【What are EM bacteria?】
EM is an aggregation of beneficial bacteria that are friendly to both people and the environment in nature, such
as photosynthetic bacteria, fermenting lactic acid bacteria, and yeast, which are effective in improving agricultural
land and water environments. The symbiotic relationship known as EM is the result of blending these beneficial
bacteria in an exquisite ratio to create a synergistic effect. Developed in 1982 by Teruo Higa, professor emeritus
at the University of the Ryukyus, it is currently used in over 100 countries around the world in various fields such
as agriculture, livestock farming, river purification, and health.
【EM contributes to microbial diversity】
Healthy soil and clean water are maintained by the diversity and balance of microorganisms living in both soil and
water. For example, if the balance of microorganisms in the soil is disrupted due to continuous cropping, the land
becomes barren and crops do not grow well, but activating the microorganisms improves the soil. And if the soil is
good, the plants will also be healthy and become more resistant to disease and insect damage.
Also, in polluted rivers, organisms that cannot survive in a deteriorated environment die out, and the

ecosystem becomes poor. Conversely, if the diversity of microorganisms in a river increases, the natural self-
purification ability increases and clean water returns. The reason that EM bio-technology can solve such a

diversity of problems is because it strengthens the "self-purification" function of the improved ecosystem by
improving the balance of native microorganisms.
